SIJBRANDA SEALINES

I see structure in horizontal lines with strong colors. The colors evoke emotions in me which I link to experiences by the sea.
The work sucks me in. It evokes peace, it reflects emotions of a day at the seaside, so strong that, as a viewer, I try to give words to that day : I was then and there by the sea at sunrise, on a cloudy day, a sun-drenched day.

Through the clear lines I imagine that the wind has subsided. The water looks muted. Whisper soft, or broken by a rising, exciting sun or an approaching storm. Because of the strong colors and the evoked emotions his work forces me to walk in the opposite way, not from chaos to structure, no, as a viewer I want to go back to the reality of the colorful play of water, horizon and sky.

I place Wim's work in the tradition of Dutch landscape painters such as Jacob van Ruisdael or Jan van Goyen. At the same time, the work refers in character and idiom to Mondriaan and De Stijl. Mondriaan who showed the dunes at Domburg and later surpassed everything with horizontal lines

SIJBRANDA SEALINES - HOPE for HAPPINESS 2021

Sealines 2021

Hope for Happiness

In the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 I made the Sealines # 8 series with the subtitle: "Hope for Happiness". Light in the centre depicts hope at the end of each perspective.

The sea

Born in Hoek van Holland, a coastal town by the sea, the sea has always been a source of inspiration. At the separation of earth and water, the space above and around is endless in a kaleidoscope of colours.

The horizon

The horizon, an imaginary line between water and air, between heaven and earth, separation of elements, end of perspective. The horizon and me. There I am, face to face with that fathomless perspective. Suppose I could make a horizon of all visible water and sky colours, then I could choose from a kaleidoscope of perspectives. From this idea the Sealines Collection © originated.

The light

A mystical dimension can also be experienced in the light, perspective, horizon and colours of sea and sky: the viewer can reflect on the all-encompassing spaces in front of, above, below and behind the horizon and thus merge into a larger whole.

Perspective

As an artist and as a person I am always looking to broaden the perspective, both internally and externally in the visible world.

Technic

As far as techniques are concerned, I combine photography with current image editing techniques. The Sealines Collection © are printed on aluminium and acrylic glass. Different sizes. In limited editions. Signed, of course.
